FAKE ANTIQUE MARKS NOTES:
Many companies used acid marks during their production, these were almost always smooth, had clear edges, glazed over, and baked into the piece. Most companies used certain colors and marks during certain time periods (learn what was used when). Many fake acid marks are placed on newer look a likes (fake antique). Often with a newer mark, a current companies name will be removed, and a fake acid mark will be rubber stamped on. The edges of the fake mark will be blurry, uneven, and often the fake mark will not match the original time period. The fake marking may be stamped over the glaze.
